Exploring Water Flossers
Using Dental Floss after each brushing is recommended by dentists, but it’s not always easy. It is quite challenging to get both hands near your mouth and make that string go between the teeth and you don’t always get every little speck of food stuck there. Many people just find the process too difficult and time consuming.
A better way may be to use a water flosser. Today there are many brands that do a great job of dislodging plaque and food particles left between the teeth. The water flosser uses a stream of water to remove biofilm and flushes away bacteria responsible for gingivitis and other oral infections.
Bleeding gums and gum disease begin when there is an increase of pathogenic bacteria in hidden pockets of the mouth. The force of water from a water flosser, rinses away that bad bacteria that creates gum disease. Studies have also shown that brushing and using a water flosser removed more plaque than using a manual toothbrush and string floss. Dentists will attest to the fact that many patients just don’t want to use string floss.
Water flossing is safe and gentle around dental restorations, implants, and orthodontic appliances. It is easier to use than string and takes less manual dexterity. It only takes about one minute to clean the entire mouth.
It’s true that water flossers cost more than string, but in light of how much better they clean your mouth, it may be a wise investment. If manual flossing isn’t doing the job for you, look into a water flosser.
