Healthy Foods for Healthy Teeth
In order to have healthy teeth for life, you need to establish a few things you follow faithfully and practice every day. It can be hard to establish a routine in the beginning, but if you stick with it, you will eventually follow it without thinking about it.
Limit Sweet Drinks
Drinks such as soda, juice, lemonade, and sports drinks are high in sugar and bath your teeth in acid. Cold green tea is much healthier and very refreshing. Try water infused with whole organic fruit and berries like blueberries, strawberries, watermelon, and pineapple. Or if you just want the fizz, try flavoring your water with Zevia, a carbonated beverage sweetened with sugar free stevia.
Low Sugar Options
You can enjoy high sugar treats occasionally, but try to make most of your foods and drinks sugar free or sweetened with stevia or erythritol, two natural plant-based sweeteners with no calories. Read labels of everything you buy because most processed foods are laden with unhealthy white processed sugar or other unhealthy sugars.
Healthy Snacks
Finding healthy snack foods is not so hard if you read labels and opt for natural as often as possible. Baby carrots, celery and apples are crunchy snacks that help remove food from your teeth. String cheese, yogurt (low sugar without fruit), whole grain (make sure ingredients say “whole” grain) crackers and plain nuts without flavorings are also great healthy snacks.
Buy or Make Sugar Free Condiments
Most mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and barbeque sauce are high in added sugar. Finding healthy sugar free versions can be challenging, but you can do it if you read labels. Avoid sweeteners like sucralose, maltitol, and dextrose. These are chemical concoctions that cause other kinds of health problems. Natural plant-based sweeteners like stevia and erythritol are your best bet for a healthy sugar-free condiment. You can also make your own condiments without sugar. Just google whatever you want to make such as homemade ketchup. With tomatoes ripening on the vine, this would be a wonderful way to use up all those extra tomatoes.
